Tobias Panofen Senior Project Manager for Renewable Energy and Clean Technology Finance bei Frankfurt School of Finance and Management

Tobias Panofen is a renewable energy finance specialist and senior project manager responsible for the FS-UNEP Centre’s RE portfolio. Tobias has over 10 years of experience in the financial service sector. He has worked both on the project as well as on program or fund level. He supported SMEs and projects to improve the business plan and financial institutions to assess related risks and develop appropriate tools and processes. Tobias has worked on several programmes and facilities enabling investments in infrastructure projects as well as for smaller-scale application, such as captive installations or off-grid energy solutions. He has a particular focus on identifying market barriers and financial market imperfections impeding the deployment of renewable energy. In response, he has been instrumental in designing several risk transfer facilities with the goal to leverage private investments. Moreover, he is an advisor to public institutions on PPPs in infrastructure. Tobias has extensive experience in financial cooperation with developing countries. He coordinated the Centre’s projects in Sub-Saharan Africa from FS’ office in Nairobi from 2012 to 2015, where he also worked with several commercial banks and an insurer. Furthermore, Tobias is the project leader for the upcoming crowd-investing platform that the Centre is setting-up. The platform will be designed as a one-of-a-kind opportunity for retail investors to finance green SMEs and projects in partner countries (initially Ghana, Peru and Rwanda).
